Approach:

My approach to counseling is highly relational and is informed by my training in treating trauma. The confusion caused by hurt and pain can feel so isolating. It's my goal in the therapy process to come alongside my clients, gently offering observations, feedback, and new skills to help clients not only deal with their circumstances, but thrive in living through them. I work to help clients identify and learn about how past experiences have affected present day feelings, beliefs, and relationships- with self and others.

Counseling works best when the methods used by the counselor fit with the client’s needs, personality, and history. I seek to know my clients well and treat the whole person. I incorporate mindfulness experiential techniques through the modality of EMDR when most useful- especially in the treatment of trauma. My recommendations to clients always include activities that help a client’s whole self- body, mind, and soul.

The process of counseling is dynamic and involves both counselor and client. Often, it’s difficult to begin counseling because problems or pain seem so overwhelming. However, when you find a good fit for you, a safe relationship with a counselor helps you to explore yourself, your environment, and the changes you want to see. My goal is to create a place of safety for you to respectfully engage with your story and walk with you through the healing process.

I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and am certified in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International (PSI) . Throughout my career over the past ten years, I have worked with clients in numerous environments- psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, schools, churches, and through non-profit organizations. Special interests are sexual abuse, perinatal and postnatal mood disorders, trauma of any kind, life transitions, and general anxiety and depression.

I’d love to talk with you more about this. Please contact me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit for each other.
